NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team carded a 313 (+25) Friday in the first round of the 17-team Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.  The Sooners stand in 15th place in a competitive field that features 15 teams ranked in Golfweek's top 50.

"We had a tough day today," OU head coach Veronique Drouin said.  "We have a lot of golf left and look forward to tomorrow."
 
UCLA (295) holds a one-shot lead over Texas (296) while TCU (298) occupies third and Oregon and Texas A&M share fourth place (299 each).  Texas' Shannon Fish leads the individual race with a 2-under-par 70.
 
OU junior Ellen Mueller turned out a solid opening round by firing a 74 (+2).  She stands in a 12th-place tie and is just two strokes out of the top five and four strokes behind Fish.
 
Senior Andrea Sellmeyer and sophomore Brooke Collins each carded a 78 (+6) and share 52nd place. 

Playing in her first Longhorn Invitational, freshman Taylor Schmidt recorded an 83 (+11) and is tied for 83rd.  Senior Chelsey Collins shot an 86 (+14) and stands in 88th.
 
Round two of the Betsy Rawls Invitational begins Saturday at 8:15 a.m. CT.
