PREVIEWING CONNECTICUT
Defending national champion Connecticut has been ranked No. 1 since all season and have a record 64 consecutive wins entering Monday night's game with Oklahoma.
UConn has dominated the women's college basketball landscape, winning each of its 25 games by double figures. It's smallest margin of victory was a 12-point win over No. 2 Stanford.
National player of the year candidate Maya Moore leads the Huskies, averaging 18.0 points.
Senior Tina Charles contributes an additional 17.9 points per game and 9.2 rebounds.
Charles, sophomore guard Tiffany Hayes, and Moore were all teammates with OU's Danielle Robinson on the gold-medal-winning Team USA this summer at the World University Games.
Coale Winningest in Big 12
Oklahoma head coach Sherri Coale has a record of 144-75 in Big 12 regular-season conference games.
Coale is in her 14th season coaching the Sooners, all since the BIg 12 formed in 1996-97. Since then, no coach past or present has more wins in league play.
Thompson on for Game Winners
The Sooners have won nine games by less than 10 points and Amanda Thompson has shot the game-winner in half of those. Thompson's clutch shots came against South Carolina, Arkansas (overtime), Creighton, Missouri and Baylor (overtime). Nyeshia Stevenson and Danielle Robinson each have two game winners.
Career Night After Night
The Sooners fast-paced offense has seen career scoring highs set for all of its active players at least once this season. Counting only its non-freshmen, Oklahoma has played 11 games in which a total of 13 career personal bests were scored. Abi Olajuwon and Danielle Robinson have each reset their career scoring high three times this season.
No. 23 Achieved, No. 24 and 25 On the Way.
Danielle Robinson scored nine points to become Oklahoma's 23rd player to reach 1,000 in a career against Marist, Dec. 9. She now has 1,265 career points scored.
Seniors Amanda Thompson and Nyeshia Stevenson are quickly reaching the milestone themselves.
Thompson has scored 993 points as a Sooner, leaving her seven shy of the mark.
Stevenson has scored 960 points, 40 away from 1,000.
Courtney Paris achieved 1,000 career points in 46 career games and no other player in women's basketball since the year 2000 achieved the mark quicker than her. The NCAA record is 37 games held by three players (Maree Jackson, LSU; Carol Menken, Oregon State; and Sandra Hodge, New Orleans).
Tres Overtimes
Oklahoma has played in three overtime games this season for the third time in program history. The 1981-82 (2-1) and 2000-01 (3-0) teams also had three overtimes in a single season.
Oklahoma is undefeated in overtime this season.
Robinson Reaches 400 Career Assists
Danielle Robinson recorded her 400th career assist with her fifth and final one versus Marist.
Robinson is fourth on OU's career assist list and trails Sharee Mitchum (1992-95), who had 601, for third place.
Stacey Dales (764) and Dionnah Jackson (606) are first and second in the all-time rankings.
Robinson Breaks Multiple FT Records
OU junior Danielle Robinson finished the 2008-09 season as one of the nation's leading free throw shooters. And this year, she is finding many of her opportunities at the line.
Robinson is 94-of-110 (.855) from the charity stripe this season, including a 61-of-64 (.953) effort in Big 12 games.
The junior broke her own OU record (previously 30 set last season) for consecutive free throws made with a streak of 35 straight that ended with a miss on her first attempt againt Baylor, Feb. 10.
Against Oklahoma State on Feb. 6, Robinson made 16-of-16 free throws, breaking OU and Big 12 records for best single-game free throw percentage and most consecutive single-game free throws.
Stevenson Matches 3-Point Record
Nyeshia Stevenson's nine 3-pointers made versus Marist helped her establish a new career scoring high and also matched a 28-year-old Sooner record.
The only other Sooner to make as many 3-pointers in a game was Carin Stites, who did it twice -- vs. Arkansas on Nov. 27, 1990, and vs. UT-San Antonio on Jan. 21, 1991.
Thompson One of a Kind
Senior forward Amanda Thompson, a.k.a. `The Waitress', loves to serve up people. She's only the second Sooner ever -- the other being Courtney Paris -- to record 100 blocks and 100 steals in her career.
Against Oklahoma State on Feb. 6, Thompson reached her 750th rebound and 250th career assist, making her one of OU's most prolific players, statistically, on both offense and defense.
Block Party
Amanda Thompson is the only Sooner in history under 6-foot-2 to have 30 or more blocks in a season -- a feat she has achieved twice. Through 24 games in her senior season, she already has 24, putting her on pace to reach the mark again this year.
Amanda Thompson had 21 blocks as a freshman, 34 as a sophomore and 31 as a junior. She ranks fourth all-time on OU's career blocks charts.
NEXT UP
Oklahoma is off until Sunday, Feb. 21, when it visits Kansas State. The game will be televised on Fox SportsNet at 2 p.m.
