NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma baseball season team kicked off the 2010 season with the Seventh Annual Diamond Dinner on Friday night.

More than 240 people were on hand to help the Sooners begin the 2010 campaign which begins next week at San Diego State on Friday, Feb. 19. The event also celebrated the successful 2009 season which saw OU host its third regional in the last six years and earn the program's first national seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Greg Norton served as the night's honoree and is the 14th former Sooner to be recognized at the banquet since 2004.

The California native was a three-time letterwinner at OU and second team All-American in 1993.  He was a member of the 1991 and 1992 Sooner teams that won 40-plus games and made two NCAA tournament appearances, including the College World Series in 1992. He would later be drafted in 1993 in the second round by the Chicago White Sox and has played the last 13 seasons in the Majors.

"Tonight is a special night for OU baseball and that is what tonight is all about ... our program," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.  "We started this event to help celebrate the storied tradition of OU baseball and recognize its great players. It is an honor to see so many former players in attendance, especially Greg Norton, tonight's honoree."

Kenny Mossman, Associate Athletics Director for Communications, emceed the event, which was held at the U.S. Postal Training Center in Norman.

Following Norton's recognition, he participated in a question and answer session and received a framed No. 18 Oklahoma jersey.

In addition, 16 other former Sooners were in attendance, including; Chase Anderson (2008-09), Aaron Baker (2007-09), Casey Bookout (1996-99), David Brooks (1978-81), Richard Cudjo (1981-82), Elton Davis (1947-49), Antwonie Hubbard (2008-09), Joseph Hughes (2006-07), Jamie Johnson (2008-09), Scott Marr (1991-92), Damon Minor (1993-96), Russell Raley (2003-06), Dr. Butch Schoenhals (1967), DeWayne Vaughn (1978-81), Jackson Williams (2005-07) and J.T.
