Sooners Lead After Monday's First Round

NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's golf team fired a first-round score of 292 (+4) Monday morning to lead the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Competing at the par-72 Club at Old Hawthorne, the Sooners pace a 15-team field that also includes Big 12 Conference foes Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma State.
OU leads second-place Oklahoma State by one stroke and third-place Wisconsin by five shots.
Oklahoma's first-round performance was highlighted by sophomore Taylor Schmidt, who shot a career-low 71 (-1). The effort was good for second place, one stroke behind Princeton's Kelly Shon. Schmidt, who started on hole No. 9, was 2 over par after her first 11 holes before carding birdies on three of her final seven holes.
Freshman Chirapat Jao-Javanil recorded five birdies to finish her morning round in third place with an even-par 72.
Senior Ellen Mueller, tied for 10th place, shot a 1-over 73. Anne-Catherine Tanguay shot a 76 (+4) and fellow freshman Emily Collins shot a 79 (+7).

The Club at Old Hawthorne will host the 2011 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship April 22-24.
