NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma defensive end Jeremy Beal has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2010 Rotary Lombardi Award. The honor is bestowed annually on the top lineman in the nation.
Ten defensive and two offensive players comprise the list of 12 semifinalists for the 41st Rotary Lombardi Award, which be held December 8, 2010, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Beal, a senior from Carrollton, Texas, has 32 tackles this season for the 6-1 Sooners and leads the team in tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (6). He ranks 10th nationally in tackles for loss and 18th in sacks despite playing against the nation's No. 12-most difficult schedule.
Oklahoma has produced three winners of the Rotary Lombardi Award with Lee Roy Selmon winning in 1975,Tony Casillas in 1985 and Tommie Harris in 2003.
Beal is the third OU player this season to move to the semifinals for a national award. Earlier, linebacker Travis Lewis was named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award and quarterback Landry Jones for the Davey O'Brien Award.
