NORMAN, Okla. -- A grand slam by Garrett Buechele in the fourth inning was the difference as the White Team evened the Red/White Series at one game apiece on Wednesday.
The White Team trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the third before Buechele came up with the bases loaded and blasted an opposite field shot to right field off starter RS-freshman Jordan John (0-1).
"Both teams had their chances of scoring throughout the game," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "It was all a matter of who was going to have the big inning or receive the big hit, and Buechele delivered."
John lasted four innings opposite his counterpart, freshman Dillon Overton. The newcomer from Weatherford, Okla., was credited with the win following his four innings of work in the start.
"We saw another set of strong starts today," added Sunny Golloway. "Game one was very similar and both games have been competitive."
Buechele has driven in seven runs so far in the series. For the Red squad, Tyler Ogle and Evan Mistich each drove in a run. Ogle had a game-high three base knocks on the afternoon.
Sophomore Max White, who started the game at second base for the White Team, also starred in relief to earn the save with one inning of work.
Game three of the best-of-five series, which will feature Kindle Ladd (Red) vs. Michael Rocha (White), is slated for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch on Saturday at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The game is free and open to the public.
