NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU baseball team concluded team practices in the fall during the second week of November with the annual Red/White Series.
In preparation for the 2010 season, SoonerSports.com will help fans get to know the numerous new faces around the diamond at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Throughout the three months leading up to the season, SoonerSports.com will feature one of the Sooners' 19 newcomers that will join a group of 17 letterwinners from the 2009 team that hosted the Norman Regional with the No. 7 national seed.
Each spotlight will include an updated bio, Q&A session and videos of each player in action from the Red/White Series and a scouting report from OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.
The 18th installment focuses on freshman right-hander Drew Verhagen. The 6-6 hurler comes to Norman from Rockwall, Texas and Rockwall Heath H.S. Verhagen did not pitch in 2009 due to surgery but did see time at the plate with a .333 batting average.
His success as a sophomore and junior provided plenty of awards, including the district's "Underclassmen of the Year" in 2007. He was also selected to play in the Perfect Game AFLAC Game for Juniors in 2007 and was tabbed Baseball America's No. 7 Prospect at the WWBA Fall Championships in 2007.
