SoonerSports.com provides a position-by-position preview of the 2009 OU football team. Stay tuned throughout the week as we break down each of the eight major position areas:
NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma lost a couple of fixtures in Juaquin Iglesias and Manuel Johnson, who, by catches, finished No. 2 and No. 9, respectively, in career receptions at OU.
That means the Sooners will look to new faces at the outside receiver positions. The cupboard is not bare for position coach Jay Norvell, however, as he has a pool of eight scholarship receivers to choose from.
Candidates include senior Adron Tennell, juniors Brandon Caleb, Cameron Kenney and Mossis Madu, sophomores Ryan Broyles, Dejuan Miller and Jameel Owens and freshman Jaz Reynolds.
Broyles returns with starting experience from 2008, while Tennell impressed during fall camp, as did Miller and Reynolds.
The excellent depth could allow Norvell to platoon with the group.
The tight end position is in capable hands with Jermaine Gresham, the preseason favorite for the Mackey Award, Brody Eldridge, junior Erik Mensik and sophomores Trent Ratterree and James Hanna. Freshman Gabe Ikard joined the team in the fall and is a candidate to redshirt.
