The Oklahoma football team's annual Meet the Sooners Day has been set for Friday, August 7, 2009, at the rugby practice fields west of Lloyd Noble Center. The event, which is highlighted by Oklahoma football coaches and players signing autographs, draws thousands of fans to Norman each year.

2009 Meet the Sooners Day Information

From Matt Hinton of Yahoo Sports: "As steadily brilliant as Bradford's been, his success is still intricately wrapped up with the line, which made him the best protected 20-year-old in America. It's even a little chicken-and-egg: To what extent did the outstanding protection make Bradford and the rest of the offense?"

From the Oklahoman on the 2009 OU-Texas game: "It's going to be pretty rough this year, because of how much controversy there was last year," said OU defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. "Not with the players. But with the fans, it's going to be outrageous." Said Bradford, "I'm sure this year when we meet in the Cotton Bowl, there's going to be a little extra added on it."

Not surprisingly, the morning following OU's turn at Big 12 Media Days usually produces one of the year's longest list of headlines on the Sooners from across the region. Let's get to the coverage:

From Mike Jones of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram: "Four players of such talent and high regard shunning NFL riches and notoriety in favor of returning to their team for another collegiate season is rare if not unprecedented. "It is pretty special," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said Tuesday. It could make OU's season..."

From the Tulsa World: "Did last year's controversial tiebreaker for the South title work, and is it fair? It worked perfectly. OU played the nation's most difficult schedule and was rewarded for its hubris. The system was in place for 10 years before anyone gave it a second thought. The tiebreaker's design is to give the highest-ranked team the best shot at the BCS title game and still get a second team into the BCS. That was a $22 million payday last year. So yes..."

The Tulsa World has a Q&A with Coach Stoops and asks if this year's defense could be his best: "I wouldn't say the best, but it has a chance to be a very good one. And who knows? Maybe the best. But that kind of statement has to be earned, and that isn't something that's said until after you see what they're able to do."

The Sporting News predicts OU will run the table in the regular season: "The Sooners can work through the kinks of a new offensive line and receivers in games with BYU and Miami, both away from home. Meanwhile, Texas won't be tested early on -- an all-star team of the Longhorns' pre-Oklahoma opponents wouldn't crack the top 25. Flawed OU will get its rivalry revenge in October and a national title game rematch with Florida in January."

From the Associated Press: "Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer thinks current Sooners coach Bob Stoops will one day surpass his accomplishments at OU. Switzer Expects Stoops to Eclipse Records - Associated Press

From the Tulsa World: "The walls inside the Red Room were barren. The hallways were empty. Photos of team captains and All-Americans were gone, leaving only ghostly, gossamer rectangular outlines. Matt Hayes of the Sporting News on Coach Stoops: "OU is 6-1 in Big 12 championship games under Stoops, and no other league program is better than .500 in the title game. The problem is that the BCS system places value on playing for it all, and conference championship games become merely a step in the process -- when, in reality, winning the SEC or Big 12 is much harder than winning one game for the national title."
