NORMAN, Okla. - Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
Summer leagues have officially finished their seasons across the country and OU players will be reporting back to Norman for the first day of classes on Aug. 24.
This is the sixth and final installment of summer baseball updates and features Daniel McCutchen, who was named the Class AAA International League pitcher of the week.
McCutchen, pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates' Indianapolis affiliate, worked 13 2/3 scoreless innings over two starts, allowing 12 hits while striking out 12. For the season, McCutchen is 12-6 with a 3.40 ERA in 22 starts last week and ranks second in the league in wins.
In McCutchen's last 10 games, he has posted a record of 8-1 with an ERA of 2.36 and 41 strikeouts. In addition, McCutchen has limited the opposition to five earned runs in his last six starts. In those 39 innings, he has struck out 29 batters while walking just four.
