Dallas, Texas. - Four past and present members of the Oklahoma men's gymnastics team completed preliminary competition Wednesday at the Visa U.S. Championships in Dallas, Texas.  The USA Gymnastics event serves as a qualifying competition for a spot on the U.S. Senior National Team for the World Championships.

2008 Olympic silver-medalist Jonathan Horton came from behind to take the lead in the men's all-around with a score of 91.250. The Houston, Texas, native finished first on high bar (15.900), second on rings (15.800) and tied for third on parallel bars (15.200). This is the first time that Horton has ever led the Visa Championships.

Steven Legendre was the other top OU performer in the first round, finishing sixth in the all-around (88.300). The 2009 NCAA all-around champion placed second on vault (16.300) and placing seventh on floor (14.950). 

“Jon and Steve had a pretty good day,” said OU head coach Mark Williams. “I'm proud of the way our guys went out there and competed.”

Chris Brooks competed on only four events but finished in a tie for seventh on rings (14.800) and tied for seventh on parallel bars (15.000).

Incoming OU freshmen Jake Dalton finished tied for 11th in the all-around (86.900) finishing third on vault (16.250) and sixth on floor (15.000).

Friday night's all-around and event finals will begin at 7 p.m. inside the American Airlines Center.  The members of the U.S. Senior National Team and World Championship squad will be announced following the meet.

On Aug. 15, NBC (Cox Channel 3, 704 HD in Oklahoma City) will air a taped recap show of men's finals at 3 p.m. ET and the women's finals at 8 p.m. ET.
