NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior Matt Harughty (2B) and RS-sophomore Antwonie Hubbard (RHP) were both selected in the 26th round on Wednesday to conclude the action on day two of the 2009 MLB Draft.  Hubbard was selected 785th overall by the Cleveland Indians and Harughty was taken shortly after at No. 793 by the Chicago White Sox.

OU now has nine players drafted so far in 2009 with rounds 31-50 set to conclude the draft on Thursday.  The total is the most since 2006 (9) and trails only two other OU clubs, the 1998 and 1995 Sooners.  Both of those squads produced 10 draft picks in their respective seasons.

Andrew Doyle (4th round), J.T. Wise (5th round), Jamie Johnson (7th round), Chase Anderson and Bryant Hernandez (9th round) and Aaron Baker (11th round) were all selected on day two.  Garrett Richards was the lone selection on day one, getting selected in the first round.

Hubbard saw limited action due to a stress fracture in his right leg but started the season in the weekend rotation.  He made nine starts, three in Big 12 play, and was 1-0 in first three starts before the injury.

The Hooks, Texas, native finished 2-3 on the season after topping Western Illinois and Wichita State.  He recorded a season-high seven strikeouts against UCLA, which resulted in a no-decision and tied that mark in the NCAA Regional Final against Arkansas.

Harughty started all 63 games at second base for OU and also filled in periodically at shortstop and third base.  He drove in career-best five runs in game two of the Feb. 21 doubleheader against Western Illinois, one of his nine multi-RBI performances on the year.  He also collected 15 multi-hit games.

The Spring, Texas, native hit eight home runs in 2009, including five in Big 12 play.  He made 117 starts in his two years in Norman and stole double-digit bases in each season.  His 12 stolen bases in 2009 ranked second on the team.

Also selected on day two was Chad Kettler, who signed with the Sooners back in November as a part of the 2010 recruiting class.  Kettler, picked 727th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 24th round, is a product of Texas and recently finished his prep career at Coppell High School where he starred as a shortstop.

The draft concludes on Thursday with rounds 31-50 starting at 10:30 a.m.

ANDERSON AND HERNANDEZ TAKEN IN NINTH ROUND, BAKER 11TH
Juniors Chase Anderson (ninth round, 276th overall) and Bryant Hernandez (ninth round, 277th overall) were drafted back-to-back on Wednesday in the 2009 MLB Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers, respectively.

The duo gave OU six draft picks in the first 10 rounds, a first since 1976 (seven) and a mark that ties the second most in that span in program history.  The 1975 squad also had six players selected in the first 10 round.

Following their selections, junior Aaron Baker became the seventh Sooner taken so far in the draft with his selection in the 11th round (325th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

While Baker was selected in the 37th round of the 2006 draft out of high school, Anderson and Hernandez were selected for the first time in their careers on Wednesday.  They join Garrett Richards, a 2009 first round selection, as the three Sooners who were all drafted for the first time.

The Oxnard, Calif, native started all 63 games at short after making 39 starts in the two previous seasons.  His batting average never dipped below .350 during the season as he hit safely in all but 10 games and led OU with 28 multiple-hit games.  Hernandez also enjoyed two 10-plus game hitting streaks and ranked second on the team with 16 multi-RBI games, inlcuding a career-high four RBIs in Feb. 22 game against Western Illinois.

Baker was a second team All-Big 12 selection in 2009 after earning honorable mention a year ago.  The 2007 freshman All-American was also named to the Norman Regional All-Tournament team after he helped eliminate Washington State in the NCAA Tournament with his first career grand slam.  Baker was also a postseason honoree in 2008 after his two-run shot in an elimination game against Vanderbilt in the 2008 Tempe Regional.

The Denton, Texas, native hit nine of his 15 homers in Big 12 play this season.  He ranked second on the team in that category and third in RBIs with 56.  Baker has driven in 167 runs in his career, eighth all-time at Oklahoma, and is the first player to drive in 50-plus runs in three consecutive seasons since Casey Bookout (1997-99).
