IRVINE, Calif. — Returning to the jumps runway at the Steve Scott Invitational for a second day in a row, freshman Will Claye claimed yet another triple jump title Sunday as Oklahoma athletes leapt to three NCAA Regional marks to give the group a total of six for the weekend. Claye was joined by Neelon Greenwood (triple jump) and Paul Gill (high jump) in eclipsing the regional qualifying mark in their respective events.
Claye earned a win in the triple jump with a distance of 53-2.75 (16.22) a day after finishing second in the long jump. Claye's winning jump came on his third attempt after eclipsing the regional qualifying mark on his second attempt. Despite winning the triple jump on Sunday, the performance is not Claye's top jump of the season as the freshman ranks No. 1 in the nation with a distance of 55-0.75 (16.78).
Greenwood also earned a regional qualifying mark Sunday, his second of the weekend, in the triple jump with a season-best jump of 50-6.00 (15.39). Greenwood's jump is the fifth best in Oklahoma history. With the jump, four of the top five triple jumps in program history have come in the last two years.
Gill finished second overall in the high jump, clearing the regional qualifying height of 6-10.75 (2.10). Gill currently ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference with a top height of 7-0.25 (2.14) at last week's Sooner Invitational.
