OKLAHOMA CITY  -- No. 8 Oklahoma (41-18) missed its opportunity to advance to the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday after suffering a 5-4 loss to No. 15 Missouri (34-24) at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

The Sooners finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark and will await their NCAA postseason fate on Monday when the 64-team field is revealed at 11:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

“This was a tremendous disappointment for our young men to come in here, where we feel like we have a lot of the pieces of the puzzle (to be successful),” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. “We are an extremely talented ball club and we just broke down. Today, we were pretty good on the mound and we broke down offensively.”

After losing a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Sooners rallied with a single run in the seventh to cut the lead down to one.  In the eighth inning, the Sooners loaded the bases but pinch hitter Kaleb Herren grounded into an inning-ending double play.

In the ninth, Jamie Johnson collected his third hit of the game and led off the frame with a double down the left-field line.  Down 5-4, the Sooners placed runners on the corners with nobody out on Matt Harughty's single through the left side.  Reliever Phil McCormick recorded a big strikeout as Aaron Baker was the first out of the inning.  J.T. Wise followed as Missouri made another pitching change for closer Brad Buehler.  The Tigers' closer forced Wise to ground into a game-ending double play for his eighth of the season.

OU finished the game 4-for-14 with runners in scoring position, including a 2-for-7 mark with runners on third and less than two outs.  Nick Tepesch allowed eight hits in his seven-inning start, but did enough to improve to 6-4.

Garrett Richards (8-4) took the loss for OU but pitched well enough to earn his ninth victory of the season.  Richards tossed 5 2/3 innings and allowed just four hits, but surrendered five runs, four earned on the afternoon.

The Sooners outhit the Tigers, 12-4, as Jamie Johnson led the way with three hits.  Garrett Buechele turned in the other multi-hit performance on the day for OU with a 2-for-3 outing.  Missouri's Aaron Senne collected two of the Tigers' four hits in the game.

OU took an early 1-0 lead as Wise drove in his team-leading 61st RBI of the season in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.  Harughty scored the go-ahead run before the Sooners increased the advantage to two runs on Casey Johnson's RBI single in the second inning.

After Missouri managed just one hit in the first three innings off Richards, it broke through in the fourth inning.  The Tigers tied the game at two runs apiece on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Mach, followed by an RBI groundout by Steve Gray.

Oklahoma quickly countered and regained the lead in the top of the fifth on Jamie Johnson's RBI single.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Sooners lost the lead as the Tigers plated three runs and ended Richards' outing.  J.R. Robinson was highly effective in relief and kept Missouri at bay in the final 2 1/3 innings.  Robinson was perfect during his relief work and struck out six Tigers.

Down 5-3, Matt Harughty scored on a head's up base-running play.  He moved to third on Baker's double to the gap in right center and scored on an errant throw, Missouri's third error of the game, by shortstop Michael Liberto.
