April 03, 2009 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department and the American Red Cross will hold their fifth annual blood drive is Monday, April 6 and Tuesday April 7. The drive will be held in the second floor Athletics Department lobby at the north end of Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium from 9:30am-2:30pm on both days.

OU Head football coach, Bob Stoops once again will serve as the drive's first donor. As an added attraction all those coming to donate will be automatically entered for a drawing to win a football autographed by OU Heisman winners Steve Owens, Billy Sims and Jason White.

"It's important that the message be sent to all OU faculty, staff and students and supporters that while we enjoy athletics and especially OU Athletics, let's remember that giving blood saves people's lives and is a way for us to give back to the community that supports our programs" said Carmen Tebbe, Ph.D., OU Athletics Department Psychologist and Life Skills Coordinator. "We are happy to be working with the Red Cross again this year."

In addition to a chance to win the autographed football, all presenting donors will receive a Louie's and OU Bookstore coupon, and a commemorative T-shirt. The OU Athletics Department will have various items to give away throughout the day. Donors do not need to be present to win and all will be entered to win a door prize.

"Our thanks to the entire OU Athletics Department and Coach Stoops for the opportunity to work together for the fifth straight year," said Steve Nagle, Red Cross Southwest Region Oklahoma CEO. "This year, we're happy to add the OU Pride, which will have members on hand helping us recruit blood donors."

All those coming to donate can receive a second entry to win the autographed football by making an appointment on line at www.givelife.org, passcode: Sooner. Donors must be 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in relatively good health to donate blood. A photo ID, such as a driver's license or OU student ID, is required to donate.

Entry to this donor site is through the north entrance of the McClendon Center for Intercollegiate Athletics, which is near the reflecting pool at Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
