NORMAN, Okla. — Members of the University of Oklahoma Track and Field program will head south this weekend to Austin, Texas for the 82nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The prestigious meet that packs the stands at Mike A. Myers Stadium features some of the nation's top athletes in an early-season showdown including 26 student-athletes from the OU program.

The four-day event kicks off Wednesday afternoon with Oklahoma action beginning on Thursday as hammer throwers Mikaela Johansson and Buck Sullivan, both program record holders in the event, take to the circle. Johansson has already posted an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 188-1.5 (57.34) and sits at No. 18 in the national rankings.

Friday's morning session will feature OU's first relay action of the 2009 outdoor season as the women's 4x100-meter relay takes to the track after garnering third-place honors at last year's Big 12 Championships. All four athletes from the 2008 quartet return to the track in 2009.

Friday will also feature four of OU's seven NCAA Regional qualifiers in action as Amy Backel (shot put), Luke Bryant (discus), Mark Costello (javelin) and Latoya Heath (100-meter hurdles) all compete. Bryant, ranked No. 6 in the men's discus, will face two other top-10 athletes in USC's Aaron Dan and Colin Campbell, ranked fifth and seventh respectively.

Friday afternoon will mark the collegiate outdoor debut of freshman standout Will Claye, competing in the long jump. While Claye is running down one runway, 2007 Big 12 long jump champion Scottesha Miller will be making her first jump of the outdoor season on the other runway. Miller will also be competing in the 100-meter dash, an event she holds the school record in.
