OU Stands Just Six Shots Off of Lead

STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad fired a tournament-opening team score of 293 (+5) and stands sixth after 18 holes of the Schenkel E-Z Go Invitational in Statesboro, Ga.
The Sooners are just six shots behind tournament leader Tennessee (-1), who was the only squad in the 18-team field to reach red figures on day one. OU bested seven of the 10 teams ranked in the latest Golfweek top-50 poll that are in the field at the par-72, 6947-yard Forest Heights Country Club.
Leading Oklahoma was sophomore Ryan Sirman, who played his final 13 holes at -2, standing 18th after a tournament-opening 72 (E). Redshirt-freshman Riley Pumphrey (T27th) was a stroke behind Sirman at +1, after a first round 73 that included eight pars and a birdie on the back nine.
The sophomore duo of Liam Logan and Chris Wilson both carded 74s on Friday, standing T36th in the 54-hole event.
Rounding out the OU scoring was Ben Blundell who opened with a 76 for a share of 59th.
A group of four golfers shot 3-under-par 69s for a share of the medalist race.
The Sooners return to the links Saturday at 8:36 a.m. (CT) and will play with Iowa and Vanderbilt for the second straight round. Live scoring is available at www.golfstat.com.
