COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS — As the only coach in the nation to have an athlete in all three jumps events at the NCAA Championships, there was no doubt that Oklahoma assistant coach Jeremy Fischer was one of the nation's best. That was made evident Thursday as the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named Fischer its Midwest Regional Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Under Fischer's tutelage, triple jumpers Shardae Boutte and Will Claye enter this weekend's NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships tied at second in the national rankings. Claye's name also appears in the long jump rankings where he is eighth nationally. Along with the two horizontal jumpers, high jumper Paul Gill enters this weekend's competition ranked No. 13 in the nation.

At the 2009 Big 12 Indoor Championships, the trio of Fischer coached athletes accounted for 27 of Oklahoma's 66 team points.

For Fischer, the honor marks his third of the kind after receiving the Midwest honor in 2007 and a West honor in 2005 as a member of the Cal State Northridge coaching staff. It gives the current Oklahoma coaching staff its sixth assistant coach of the year honor as associate head coach Dana Boone received Midwest Regional Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2007 and throws coach Brian Blutreich was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2007.

Currently in his fourth year at Oklahoma, Fischer's athletes have accounted for nine NCAA All-America honors and five Big 12 individual titles. Athletes competing under Fischer also hold program records four different events.

Action at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships kick off Friday morning at 10 a.m. inside the Gilliam Indoor Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University. OU action will begin at 4:15 p.m. with Claye in the long jump and Boone in the mile.
