GAME NOTES
Several Sooners extended their hitting streaks on Saturday ... Bryant Hernandez leads the way with 10 games dating back to last season ... Garrett Buechele is second with a seven-game streak ... Jamie Johnson and Kaleb Herren both have six-game streaks and Tyler Ogle has hit safely in his last five games ... The Sooners have posted 10 or more hits in all but two games this season and plated 10 or more runs in six contests.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- The No. 16 OU baseball team swept a doubleheader on Saturday at Washington State with a 12-3 victory in the second game.  The Sooners won the first game, 9-7, in 11 innings and hold a 2-1 series lead heading into Sunday's finale at 2 p.m. CT.

The victory improves the Sooners' overall mark to 7-2 while Washington State dropped to 1-5.  OU outhit Washington State 15-5 in the game and connected for 32 hits in the doubleheader with 21 runs scored.

Each of the Sooners' position starters collected a hit in the later game on Saturday and six of those individuals posted multi-hit performances.

Bryant Hernandez led the way with two hits and three RBIs and was joined by Elliot Blair and Garrett Buechele with two hits and two RBIs apiece.  J.T. Wise also had two hits, including a solo homer in the fifth inning, and Casey Johnson and Tyler Ogle joined the two-hit club in the game.

“After a hard fought win (in the first game), we knew we had to keep the momentum going and a quick start was important,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.  "The six-run inning was big in the third and I was proud of the way our guys came out and played in both games.”

The Sooners wasted no time to get on the board with two runs in the top of the first.  Aaron Baker plated the game's first run on his double ripped to right-center field to bring in Casey Johnson who walked with two outs in the frame.  Hernandez continued his torrid pace with a single to center to bring in Baker.

In the third inning, Hernandez was at it again with a RBI single to bring home Matt Harughty.  For Hernandez, it extended his hitting streak to 10 games (dating back to last season) and marked his eighth multiple-hit performance of the season.  In addition, he finished the day 5-for-7 with five RBIs in the doubleheader.

The hitting continued as Garrett Buechele faced the first reliever of the game in the third after Hernandez and the Sooners chased WSU starter Spencer Jackson (0-1) out of the game.  Buechele drove in his seventh and eighth runs of the season on a single to right-center field off reliever Rusty Shellhorn.  Ellliot Blair followed three batters later with his second double of the game, an extra-base hit that brought in two runs.  Jamie Johnson capped off the scoring on a RBI ground out that gave OU an 8-0 lead.

The six-run third inning marked the seventh time that OU batted through the lineup and the seventh time it scored five or more runs in an inning.  OU batted around the order again in the fifth inning, including Wise's solo homer, the Sooners' 11th roundtripper of the season.

The Cougars tallied three runs off OU starter Garrett Richards through 4 1/3 innings.  Richards had four strikeouts but gave up three hits and walked six batters before the end of the outing.  Kaleb Herren (1-0) worked in relief and earned the win.  Herren allowed just one  hit and struck out one batter in 2 2/3 innings of action.

Jarrett Semler was also effective in relief as he finished the final two innings for the Sooners.  Semler allowed one hit in the outing.
