Sooners Defeat No. 75 UNLV, 6-1

LAS VEGAS – The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team (6-3) won its second-straight road match defeating No. 75 UNLV 6-1, Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Sooners ended the Running Rebels four game winning streak and handed UNLV only their third loss on the year, bringing their record to 9-3.
OU began the match clinching the doubles point. The Sooners won the No. 2 and 3 positions, but fell at the No. 1 position to a nationally ranked duo.
In singles action, OU soundly defeated all but one of the Running Rebels' players.
Junior Andrei Daescu continued his strong play at the No. 1 position, defeating No. 98-ranked Elliot Wronski of UNLV 6-2, 6-4. At the No. 5 position, fellow junior Blake Boswell gained another point for the Sooners by defeating Bryan Miller 6-2, 6-2.
The Oklahoma duo of sophomores carried on the winning theme as David Pultr and Ionut Beleleu defeated their respective opponents. Pultr tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luca Barlocchi at the No. 3 spot and Beleleu ousted UNLV's Wesley Burrows 6-4, 6-1.
Freshman George Chanturia took care of business at the No. 6 position, defeating Attila Toth 6-4 , 6-2. This win gives Chanturia a record of 8-1 on the season which is tops on the Sooners' roster.
Senior Sergey Avdeyev continued to struggle in the desert. He suffered the Sooners only loss in singles competition as he was defeated by UNLV's Mehdi Bouras.
Next up for the Sooners is a trip to Waco, Texas to take on No. 10 Baylor on Wednesday, March 4.
