SEATTLE, Wash. — Kelly Waters became OU's latest NCAA provisional qualifier with a personal-best time of 4:46.83 in the mile Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle. The sophomore crossed the line as the fifth-fastest female mile runner in OU history as the field turned in one of the most competitive races to be seen this season. Five athletes recorded NCAA automatic qualifying marks while Waters and 13 others recorded NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
Waters' classmate, Jessica Engel, finished seventh in her heat with a time of 4:56.27.
Amanda Mayfield improved her time in the women's 800-meter run, finishing the race in a time of 2:10.81. Mayfield finished second in her heat and sixth overall as she moved up to No. 8 on the OU all-time performance list in the event.
OU returns home for its next action, the Sooner Open II, on Saturday Feb. 21 inside the Mosier Indoor Facility.
