TAMPA, Fla. - University of Oklahoma assistant volleyball coach Kelly Files has been named National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. This is the first year for the award, which will be presented annually to the nation's top assistant coach.
"Kelly is the greatest assistant anyone could ask for," said Oklahoma head coach Santiago Restrepo. "I am very fortunate to have her on my staff. This is a great honor for her and very well deserved."

Over the past six seasons, Files has been an instrumental part in the resurgence of the Sooner volleyball program. In that span, Files has been involved in recruiting, conditioning, on-the-floor coaching and administrative work. Under Restrepo and Files, the Sooners have been to the NCAA Tournament three out of the past four seasons.
Files' greatest contribution came off the court during an 11-month span in which Restrepo's youngest son, Javier, suffered a relapse of leukemia. During this time, Files took on additional staff responsibilities so Restrepo could be with his family.
Files served as acting head coach for the final two matches of the 2008 season as Restrepo's son was about to undergo a second transplant operation. Files quietly continued to carry these duties into the summer as the Restrepo family dealt with the passing of Javier in July 2009.
