NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's gymnastics team will host its annual Red-White scrimmage on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
The officially judged competition will be hosted inside the temporary training facility for the OU men's and women's gymnastics programs. The facility is located on Highway 77, just North of Tecumseh Road.
The Red Team will be led by senior co-captain Corey English opposite the White Team led by fellow co-captain, junior Steven Legendre. The competition marks the first time the Sooners will be in front of judges in a team competition this year.
Oklahoma begins the 2010 slate on Jan. 16 with its annual trip to the Rocky Mountain Open hosted by the Air Force Academy. Last season, OU swept all six event titles en-route to winning its 10th straight Rocky Mountain Open.
The Sooners were voted third in the preseason GymInfo Coaches Poll, receiving three first-place votes, after Legendre won the all-around, floor and vault national titles in 2009, while the Sooners placed third at Nationals.
The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team has won five of the last seven NCAA team crowns, (2008), (2006), (2005), (2003), and (2002), all under current head coach Mark Williams. With eight national championships, the men's gymnastics team owns the most titles of any OU athletics program, breaking a tie with the football and wrestling squads.
Since the creation of collegiate men's gymnastics (1953), only seven current teams have won consecutive national championships. Oklahoma is the only men's gymnastics program to have won two straight or more on three separate occasions.
