OKLAHOMA CITY -- OU head women's basketball coach Sherri Coale will be honored as distinguished alumna Friday at Oklahoma Christian University's Homecoming Banquet.

Coale, a 1987 graduate, and OC's Chairman of the Board of Trustees Don Millican, as a distinguished honorary alumnus, will be recognized for their achievements at the weekend's main event.  The dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the Gaylord University Center.

A native of Healdton, Okla., Coale played women's basketball for four seasons at OC, captaining the three-time conference champions and twice earning Academic All-America honors.

Shortly after graduation, Coale began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Edmond Memorial and, in 1989, took over the reins at Norman High School, making it one of the nation's elite programs.

In 1996, Coale was hired at the University of Oklahoma and the rest is history.  Under Coale, OU transformed from a 5-22 team in her first season into a national runner-up in 2002.  The Sooners made a return trip to the Final Four last season and, in between, gained six Big 12 Conference regular-season championships, four conference tournament championships, 10 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances, 76 Academic All-Big 12 honorees and countless other achievements.
