NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma is No. 8 in the Preseason USA Today/ESPN Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll released Wednesday.

The Sooners, picked 13th in the media poll, finished the 2009 season ranked No. 4 after making the program's second Final Four appearance.

Oklahoma returns three starters including 2009 Nancy Lieberman Award finalist Danielle Robinson and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Whitney Hand.

Defending national champion Connecticut received all 31 first-place votes in the preseason poll. Four starters are returning from the team that went 39-0 last season.

Stanford was second, followed by Ohio State, Baylor and North Carolina, which finished the 2008-09 season ranked 17th.

Duke was No. 6, with Notre Dame seventh, Tennessee ninth and Michigan State completing the top 10. Arizona State was 11th, Florida State was No. 12 and Cal came in at 13th and Texas was 14th, followed by Xavier, Texas A&M, LSU, Virginia and Louisville.

Vanderbilt, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Iowa State and DePaul finish the top 25.

DePaul is one of five teams in the poll not ranked at the end of last season. The others are Notre Dame, Tennessee, Texas and LSU.

Oklahoma plays its exhibition opener tonight against Rogers State. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

The Sooners host their final exhibition Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the Lloyd Noble Center versus Oklahoma Christian.
