LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a 3-1 [22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-25] decision to fifth-ranked Nebraska Saturday evening at NU Coliseum. The Sooners (13-7, 6-5 Big 12) trailed 2-0 after the intermission and fought back from six down to win the third set before falling in the fourth to the Cornhuskers (15-5, 8-3 Big 12). Sophomore Suzy Boulavsky led OU with 19 kills, hitting .320 in 50 total attempts. Boulavsky added seven digs and two block assists. Sophomore setter Brianne Barker recorded her 15th double-double of the year with 33 assists and 10 digs. Barker added one service ace. Junior Sarah Freudenrich added six kills, while senior Bridget Laplante and junior Francie Ekwerekwu added five each. Freudenrich added five block assists to lead the Sooners. Ekwerekwu and Laplante each added one block solo. Freshman Maria Fernanda paced OU defensively with 14 digs and two service aces. Sophomore Caitlin Higgins also added 13 digs. The two teams traded rallies early in the first set before the Huskers jumped up 10-9 and never looked back. Oklahoma cut the lead to 24-22 late but NU held on take the set 25-22. The second set featured 15 ties and saw the two teams hang close at 16-16 before Nebraska took a 19-17 advantage only to see the Sooners come back to tie the set at 19-all. Nebraska regained the lead but Oklahoma did not falter, rallying to notch the set at 21 before the Huskers retook the lead at 22-21 and went on to win the set 25-22 heading into the intermission. After the break, it appeared Nebraska was well on its way to a minimum three-set sweep. Oklahoma lead 13-11 until Nebraska rattled off six straight to take an 18-13 advantage. The Sooners then came to life, fighting back to take a 21-20 lead after six consecutive Nebraska attack errors. Oklahoma then held on to win 25-22 and force a fourth set. Nebraska jumped out to a 9-8 lead and never looked back, taking the fourth set, 25-15 to win the match. Oklahoma returns home for its next two contests. The Sooners host Colorado Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. CT and welcome Kansas State on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
