LONDON -- Former Sooner and 2008 Olympic silver-medalist Jonathan Horton finished eighth in the event finals on the high bar apparatus with a score of 13.250 at the 2009 World Championships in London, Great Britain.

“You learn something from every single competition. A rough meet this year is going to raise me to the next level of where I need to be, providing the motivation to train even harder and be more prepared next time,” said Horton. “What happened here is a combination of how much I trained and how much preparation I've had. I always expect the best but sometimes this happens.”

On the first day of competition, Horton finished 17th in the all-around with a score of 84.300. Horton's high scores of the all-round competition came on vault and parallel bars with a 15.750 and 15.125, respectively.

Horton made his debut at the World Championships in 2007 and finished fourth in the all-around at Stuttgart, Germany. He became the fourth American gymnast to finish in the top-four at Worlds.

The field featured 73 countries and a total of 457 gymnasts, with more than 1,200 athletes, coaches and officials.  According to the official Web site, the countries sending the maximum number of athletes (six men and four women) are: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and USA.

USA Gymnastics' Web site, www.usa-gymnastics.org, will have results and a variety of information on the U.S. Team's efforts in London.
