LONDON -- Former Sooner and 2008 Olympic silver-medalist Jonathan Horton finished 17th in the all-around standings with a score of 84.300 at the 2009 World Championships at The O2 Arena in London, Great Britain.
“I am going to continue to train my hardest when I get back,” said Horton, who is in the high bar finals on Sunday. “My heart is always in this game. I feel I belong on that medal podium, if not at the top, and I am going to train harder than I ever have so I can come back next year.”
The World Championships will conclude on this weekend with the individual event finals. Oklahoma junior Steven Legendre will compete Saturday on the floor exercise, while Horton will compete Sunday on high bar.
Horton's high scores of the night came on vault and parallel bars with a 15.750 and 15.125, respectively.
"Jon had a rough day but he did his best," said OU Head Coach Marl Williams. "It just wasn't his day but this will motivate him and he will bounce back. Jon continues to represent the University of Oklahoma and his country at the highest level of the sport and I was proud to be a part of it again"
Horton made his debut at the 2007 World Championships and finished fourth in the all-around at Stuttgart, Germany. He became the fourth American gymnast to finish in the top-four at Worlds. Legendre is competing in his first World Championship.
