NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's volleyball team returns home Saturday afternoon to face Texas Tech in a 2 p.m. CT contest from McCasland Field House. Admission to the match is free of charge and fans are encouraged to use a free shuttle from the Lloyd Noble Center bus stop to First Street (a short walk to the Field House). The first 250 fans in attendance receive OU foam fingers.
Oklahoma (6-6, 2-2 Big 12) defeated the Red Raiders (5-9, 0-3 Big 12) earlier this season, 3-2 in Lubbock at the Red Raider Round Up. OU won the event after taking down the host school, TCU and New Orleans. The Sooners were not initially scheduled to compete in the tournament but emergency management plans due to Hurricane Ike resulted in the Sooners replacing McNeese State in the event. The game played at the tournament replaced the one originally scheduled for Nov. 15 in Lubbock. The Sooners are seeking to extend their series win streak to six games.
OU seeks to snap its two game losing skid Saturday. The Sooners dropped a 3-2 decision at Baylor Wednesday evening and fell at Texas A&M on Sept. 21, 3-2. Against the Bears, redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu led the way for OU with 14 kills. Junior Bridget Laplante and freshman Caitlin Higgins each tallied their second consecutive double-doubles. For Laplante, her 12 kills and 16 digs marked her fifth double-double this season. Higgins' 12 kills and 14 digs were also her fifth.
Freshman Suzy Boulavsky surpassed her previous season high in the kills column with 13. Of players that saw action in all five sets, Boulavsky also led the team in hitting percentage. Freshman setter Brianne Barker continued her impressive season with a season-high 50 assists and 18 digs for her sixth double-double of the year and second straight.
Senior Lacy Barnes eclipsed her career-high with 26 digs on the evening. It marked the second time in the last three matches that Barnes has posted 20+ digs. Sophomore Chrissy Disarro tied her career high with four service aces on the evening. Disarro also led the team with six blocks.
Following Saturday's contest, the Sooners host Texas in a 7 p.m. CT contest Wednesday evening. The match is scheduled to air nationally on ESPNU.
