NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team continues its Texas road trip this week as the Sooners (6-5, 2-1 Big 12) travel to Waco to meet Baylor (10-2, 2-0 Big 12) in a Wednesday evening matchup. Match time from the Ferrell Center is set for 7 p.m. CT. Live stats will be available on www.BaylorBears.com.
The Sooners lead the all-time series with BU, 25-13. OU holds a slim 9-8 advantage in games played in Waco and has won the last five contests.
OU dropped a battle in College Station, Texas, Sunday afternoon, 3-2, to Texas A&M. Junior Bridget Laplante led the Sooners with 14 kills on the afternoon and freshman setter Brianne Barker tied her season high in assists with 44. Freshman Caitlin Higgins and Francie Ekwerekwu each recorded 12 kills. Sophomore Chrissy Disarro posted a team-high six block assists to equal her career high. Also on defense, Barker and Higgins led the OU team with 19 digs to post their fifth and fourth double-doubles of the season, respectively.
Last Wednesday, the Sooners came from behind to defeat Missouri, 3-1. Ekwerekwu led OU with a team-high 13 kills. Ekwerekwu added five total blocks on the evening. Laplante added nine kills, while Higgins contributed eight. Senior Lacy Barnes tallied a career-high 22 digs, while Laplante also added 22. Higgins added a season-high 21 digs. Junior Taylor Harbster was the fourth Sooner to total double-digit digs with 13 on the night. Barker led the team in assists with 38 and had the highest hitting percentage on the team at.462.
Baylor is 10-2 overall on the year and has won two straight - both conference matches. The Bears started the year with an 8-0 record before falling to UNLV and Oregon. BU is holding opponents to a .130 hitting percentage and allowing 1.50 blocks per set. The Bears are tallying 2.99 blocks per set and hitting .257 on the year.
OU returns home Saturday afternoon to host Texas Tech at 2 p.m. in McCasland Field House. Due to the home football game scheduled for 6 p.m. CT, volleyball fans have the opportunity to use a free shuttle from the Lloyd Noble Center bus stop to First Street (a short walk to the Field House). This free shuttle will start at 1:15 PM and make its last run at 2:15 PM. The shuttle should run approximately every 15 minutes.
