NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's volleyball team returns home Wednesday evening to face the Missouri Tigers in a 7 p.m. contest from McCasland Field House. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive an OU volleyball license plate and fans can enjoy 50-cent hot dogs as long as supplies last.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series with Missouri, 35-27. OU holds an 18-8 advantage in games played in Norman and won the last contest between the two schools.
OU improved to 5-4 on the year by winning the Red Raider Round Up last weekend in Lubbock after defeating Texas Tech, TCU and New Orleans. The Sooners (1-0 Big 12) were not initially scheduled to compete in the event but emergency management plans across Texas and Louisiana due to Hurricane Ike resulted in OU replacing McNeese State in the event.
Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while freshman Brianne Barker earned the Best Setter award. Freshman Caitlin Higgins and sophomore Chrissy Disarro were also named to the all-tournament team. On the weekend, Higgins led the Sooners with 42 kills. Boulavsky and Laplante netted 26, while Disarro had 22. Barnes led the team defensively with 40 digs, while Higgins added 33. Disarro and Ekwerekwu each had 18 blocks on the weekend to carry the Sooners. As a team, Oklahoma stifled opponents in the blocking game, 36-23.
Among the nation's leaders in individual categories, Disarro is 17th in the nation with 1.40 blocks per set.
Missouri (5-4, 0-0 Big 12) competed at the University of Nevada's AT&T Invitational last weekend. The Tigers posted a 1-2 record, falling to Nevada and then-#24 Pepperdine. MU closed out the tournament with a 3-0 win over UC-Davis. At 5-4 overall on the year, Missouri also has wins over Tulane, Utah State, Maryland and St. John's.
