Daescu Advances to Main Draw

COSTA MESA, Calif. – No. 22 Andrei Daescu extended his fall undefeated streak four as he defeated Adam Morgan 6-0, 4-6,7-5, Monday afternoon at the Costa Mesa Pro Futures Classic.

With the win, Daescu earned a spot in the main draw of 32. “Andrei played very well in these first four matches in California” OU Assistant Coach Silviu Tanasoiu said. “He is feeling confident, and is ready to see where he stands against ranked professional Zach Fleishman.”

Daescu continues play on Wednesday against No. 2 seed Fleishman, ranked 465th in the world by ATP.

Five Sooners, including Daescu, have been selected by the ITA to participate in the All-American Tournament in Tulsa.

Daescu starts in the main draw Oct. 9-11, while No.122-rated Sergey Avdeyev, Ionut Beleleu, George Chanturia and Blake Boswell have to make their way through the pre-qualifying round Oct. 3-5 as well as the qualifying round Oct. 6-8.
