NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma women's track and field team was recognized for its academic achievements Wednesday while seven student-athletes from the program were individually honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The women's team, with a team grade-point average of 3.20, was named to the organization's list of All-Academic teams. To be nominated for the team honor, a team must carry a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade-point average.
Amy Backel, Kristi Cook, Jessica Eldridge, D'Andre Fisher, Chip Heuser, Catherine Odell and Rob Sorrell all were named to the USTFCCCA 2008 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team after compiling a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and meeting either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
Aside from the academic achievements, Backel and Eldridge also received All-America honors during the outdoor season in the javelin and 1500 meters, respectively.
