Oklahoma Game Notes

• OU's 27 points scored in the first quarter marked the third most in a season opener. The highest Sooner tally in the opening period of a season opener was 31 against North Carolina in 2001.

• Oklahoma's 211 yards in the first quarter was the second most ever in a season opener behind last year's 247 in the first against North Texas.

• OU's 50 points in the first half marked only the second time in the modern era (since 1937) the Sooners have scored 50 or more points in the first half. Oklahoma eclipsed the 50-point plateau in the first half against Rice in 1978 (52). The OU record for points in a half is 55, against Kansas State in 1942 (second half).

• The Sooners held Chattanooga to two first downs in the contest, the lowest total since 1993 when OU held Oklahoma State to a single first down.

• Twelve different Sooners recorded a catch in the win including four true freshmen. James Hanna, Justin Johnson, DeJuan Miller and Jameel Owens all recorded a catch in their Sooner debut.

• OU junior Brian Simmons and redshirt freshman Travis Lewis both picked up their first official start in tonight's contest. Simmons (Raleigh, N.C.) started at left guard while Lewis (San Antonio, Texas) opened the game at linebacker.

• A total of six true freshmen -- Stephen Good, James Hanna, Justin Johnson, Stacy McGee, DeJuan Miller and Jameel Owens -- saw their first action as Sooners in tonight's game.

• Tonight's game, with the 1:12 weather delay, lasted 4:09, the second longest game in school history. The longest game was 4:12 vs. Baylor (a double OT contest) in 2005. The longest game in 2007 was at Texas Tech, 4:03. There are a total of five, 4-hour games in school history. The other two were the 2001 Kansas State game in Norman (4:03) and 2002 vs. Texas-El Paso (4:00), also in Norman.

Oklahoma Individual Notes

Chris Brown
• Oklahoma's season-opening touchdown was scored by Chris Brown, marking the 17th time the 5-11 junior has reached the end zone as a Sooner. He finished with three for the game, the second time in his career that Brown has scored three times. Tonight marks his sixth multi-touchdown game in his Sooner career.

• Almost one-third of Brown's 228 carries entering tonight's contest (31.1%) have either gone for first downs or touchdowns (56 first downs, 15 touchdowns).

DeMarco Murray
• Picking up where he left off a year ago, DeMarco Murray scored two first-half touchdowns. Murray notched five scores in last season's home opener against North Texas.

• Murray's 49-yard run in the first quarter was his third longest career rush and longest non-scoring carry.

• Murray's 124 yards rushing was the second most in a game for the Las Vegas, Nev., native. Murray had 17 carries for 128 yards against Texas last season.

Sam Bradford
• Sam Bradford was 17-of-22 (.773) for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Tonight's contest marked the eighth time that the sophomore quarterback has completed 70 percent or more of his passes in his career.

Joey Halzle
• Joey Halzle finished the game 14-of-16 for an .875 completion percentage with one TD pass. Halzle and Bradford combined for 31-of-38 for an .816 completion mark and three touchdowns.

Quentin Chaney
• Quentin Chaney picked up his fifth career receiving touchdown and third in regular-season play.

Manuel Johnson
• Manuel Johnson had nine catches for 120 yards, the second most single-game receiving yards for the senior. His career best came against Baylor in 2007 with 126.

• With his 120-yard total tonight, Johnson became OU's 24th 1,000-yard receiver for a career. His career total stands at 1,116 yards, 20th on the all-time list.

• Johnson's nine catches marked a career high and tied an OU record for receptions in a half with eight. He is tied with Eddie Hinton (vs. Oklahoma State in 1968) and Juaquin Iglesias (vs. Utah State in 2007). All three posted the mark in the first half of play.

Juaquin Iglesias
• Juaquin Iglesias' 69-yard kickoff return following OU's safety was the second longest kickoff return of his career. His longest is an 88-yard return for a touchdown versus Baylor in 2006.

By the Numbers

72 - Minute halftime delay due to inclement weather.

84,715 - Saturday night's attendance, an OU record for a season opener. The previous high was 84,472 in the 2007 opener against North Texas. It was the ninth largest home crowd in Oklahoma history.

57 - Consecutive sellouts under Bob Stoops.

9-1 - Stoops improved his career record to 9-1 in season openers.

19 - Consecutive wins at home, dating back to a season-opening 17-10 loss to TCU on Sept. 3, 2005.

.773 - Sam Bradford's completion percentage, marking the eighth time the sophomore quarterback has completed at least 70-percent of his passes.

.816 - OU completion percentage for the quarterback duo. Bradford was 17-of-22 (.773), while Halzle went 14-of-16 (.875).

3 - Touchdown runs for Chris Brown, the second time Brown has scored three times in a contest.

2 - The Sooners held Chattanooga to two first downs in the contest, one in each half.
