No. 18 Jermaine Gresham
The junior from Ardmore, Okla., is a potent weapon
at tight end for the Sooner offense. Too fast for linebackers,
too big for defensive backs, Gresham's middle name
might be "mismatch". View

Updated each weekday morning, Boomer Bytes is your
quick guide to Sooners in the news:
• Guerin Emig of the
Tulsa World: "Jermaine's
been
awesome," OU
coach Bob Stoops said. "He's
just a great guy in everything that we've asked him
to do, a great worker, a great guy going to class.
And then on the field, he's really grown and has taken
a lot of pride..."
• Steve Muench of ESPN: "
Gresham caught five passes
for 95 yards and a touchdown in Oklahoma's 65-21 win
over Texas Tech, and the Sooners' play-action package
played a big role in his success. His 42-yard catch
in the first quarter on a second-and-5..."
• John Helsley of the
Oklahoman: "Gresham
posted
career highs with nine receptions and 158 yards, with
two grabs going for touchdowns, including a 73-yard
catch and run on a ball that glanced off teammate Manny
Johnson's hands that kept Sooner momentum surging..."
• From the
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal: "His nine touchdowns
this season have come from an average of 25 yards.
Not bad for a guy listed at 6-foot-6 and 261 pounds. “Any
route that you may see a wide receiver run, Gresham
runs - and can run the same route,”
• From the
Oklahoman: "Junior
tight end Jermaine Gresham is ranked as the
top
tight end and the No. 28 overall player eligible
for the April draft. “He has good hands and the
ability to get open,” ESPN draft analyst Todd
McShay told The Oklahoman."
• From the
Oklahoman: "The last
time OU and Nebraska played came in the 2006 Big 12
Championship. The Sooners won 21-7, a coming-out party
for tight end
Jermaine
Gresham, who had a huge 35-yard catch on third-and-10
from OU's 1-yard line that ignited a 99-yard touchdown
drive. Said running back Chris Brown..."
• From
Sports Illustrated: "April's draft will be full
of quality tight ends and Gresham would be at the
top
of the list -- if he chose to go pro. He possesses
the athleticism and pass-catching skills of Tony Gonzalez,
yet has better size and potential as a blocker."
• From the
Kansas City Star: ""...and finally,
tight end Jermaine Gresham, of whom Prince said, “He's
probably the
best
tight end I've seen in a long
time.” There's a reason why NFL personnel
love visiting Norman. “At every position, they
have at least one first-day pick..."
• From
Rivals: "Gresham was battling a severe ankle injury
last week during practice. "The
first person that expected
Gresham
to play was Gresham," Taylor
revealed on Monday. "He told me, 'I'm going to
play.' There's was just no way he wasn't going to play"
• From the
Austin American-Statesman: "Texas defensive
coordinator Will Muschamp was asked Monday to explain
what happened to his defense on Jermaine Gresham's
52-yard touchdown reception. You'll recall the
vast expanse of green grass surrounding
Gresham when...
• From Jenni Carlson of
the
Oklahoman: "Jermaine
Gresham is more than proud to call
Ardmore his
hometown. He is lucky. He knows as much. Perhaps there
would've been a coach like Loyd had he lived elsewhere.
Perhaps there would've been a couple like the...
• From the
Seattle Post-Intelligencer: "But
reality sometimes smacks you in the face on these things.
Like when 6-foot-6, 261-pound Oklahoma tight end
Jermaine
Gresham, a junior playing in his 31st college game,
hauled in a pass from quarterback Sam Bradford...
• From the
Tulsa Beacon: "Jermaine
Gresham's score in the second quarter was the
13th of his career which ranks
third
all-time for Sooner tight ends behind only Keith
Jackson (15) and Trent Smith (16). Gresham's
seven receptions Saturday tied a career high, while
his 93 receiving...
• Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman: "“I
just approached it the same way. I took the same procedures.
Things happened to fall my way this game. This offense
will be
special if
we play hard every down. We do that, we should be able
to do whatever we want.”
• John Shinn of the
Norman Transcript: "He's
the essential "big target" every offense
covets. He's too big for most defensive backs to cover
and too quick for linebackers to handle in wide spaces.
One of the Sooners' offensive goals will be to get
the ball in
Gresham's
hands more often...
• Mike Moguin of the
Daily Ardmorite: "
Jermaine
Gresham is just one of many reasons why the Oklahoma
Sooners are expected to be in the national championship
race this season. The Ardmore product is producing
a stellar career for OU as a tight end. The amazing
catches he...
• Michael Felder of the Bleacher Report: "In
the run game, Gresham is a surprisingly
aggressive blocker
who is capable of stoning defensive ends, washing down
defensive tackles, and engaging linebackers and defensive
backs in space. He shows a propensity for blocking
down...
• Matt Hayes of the
Sporting News: "After
analyzing player rankings from each of the six BCS
conferences the last two weeks, we give you the overall
player
rankings from the BCS schools: Sam Bradford, Juaquin
Iglesias, Auston English, Duke Robinson, Jermaine Gresham...
• John Hoover of the
Tulsa World: "Jermaine
Gresham, Oklahoma's
uncommonly
talented junior tight end, says he's not giving
much consideration to leaving school a year early to
play in the NFL. "No," he said. "My
first thing here is to get a degree. I really don't
see it...
