NORMAN, Okla. -- Construction on the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion continues to progress as four of six remaining 115,000-pound wall panels rose Monday.
The final two wall panels are scheduled to be installed on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Each 14-inch thick panel uses a layering technique, which includes a layer of eight-and-a-half inches of concrete facing the outside, followed by a two-inch section of Styrofoam insulation and then another two-and-a-half inches of concrete.
Following the wall panel completion, construction crews will be able to begin work on the courts and mezzanine.
Located just east of the Headington Family Tennis Center outdoor courts, the indoor facility is scheduled for a December 2008 completion.
Highlights of the new, 55,000 square-foot facility include six air-conditioned courts, championship-quality lighting and surface, and approximately 375 chair-back seats for spectators, which are elevated between the courts.
Upon its completion, the new Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion will give OU's men's and women's tennis programs one of the finest practice and competition venues in the country.
