BEIJING, China — Former University of Oklahoma student-athlete Aldwyn Sappleton was unable to advance from the first round of competition in the men's 800-meter run at the Olympic Games in Beijing Wednesday morning. The Jamaican native finished sixth in the event's seventh heat with a time of 1:48.19.
Kuwait's Mohammad Al-Azemi (1:46.94) and Bahrain's Yusuf Saad Kamel (1:46.94) were the only two competitors from Sappleton's heat to move onto the next round of competition. Kenya's Wilfred Bungel recorded the round's quickest time, crossing the line in 1:44.90.
With Sappleton eliminated, Michael Blackwood remains the lone athlete with OU connections remaining in Olympic track & field action. Blackwood will return to the track on Friday as a member of Jamaica's 4x400-meter relay, slated to begin at 7:10 a.m.
