NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
The six installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:
SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Playing in the Cape Cod League, Jamie Johnson (Bourne Braves) and Aaron Baker (Warehem Gatemen) continue to perform well. On July 10, Johnson hit a solo homerun for the Bourne Brave in a loss to Cotuit 10-5. However, he followed that perfomance by adding two hits in a 3-2 win on July 11. For the season he is hitting .232 with two homeruns which is tied for first on the team.
Baker has also perfomed well offensively for the Gatemen. He hit a solo homerun to lead-off the bottom of the first on July 15, but his homerun was not enough to secure the win. On July 16 he provided the offense for the Gatemen by hitting a lead off homerun in the second and then hit a double in the sixth to edge 2-0 victory. On July 14, Baker and Johnson went head to head and both performed well; however, Johnson's Braves got the better of Baker's Gatemen in a 2-0 ballgame. Baker had two hits in the game, and Johnson had a sacrifice fly to add to the Braves one run lead. J.T. Wise is also playing in the Cape League for the Harwich Mariners hitting .350 along with 10 RBIs and one homerun.
In the Texas Collegiate League, Trey Sperring (Brazos Valley Bombers) keeps rolling, as he has a team high four homeruns along with 17 RBIs and two stolen bases. Also playing in the TCL with the Bombers is Chad Colbert.
Doug Buser continues to play great ball for the Kitsap Bluejackets of the West Coast League. For the season he is hitting .324 which is first on the team and has 34 hits along with 13 RBIs. Garrett Buechele is also playing in the WCL and is hitting .273 on the season for the Palm Springs Power.
Ace pitcher Jeremy Erben (Mat Su Miners) is continuing to pitch at a high level in the Alaska League. Through 33 innings pitched he has allowed only 22 hits with 21 strikeouts and carries a 2-2 record with a 1.65 ERA. Also pitching for the Miners is Garrett Richards and Michael Rocha.
Antwonie Hubbard, Bryan Groth, and Matt Harughty are also playing in the Alaska League for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots. Leading the way is Harughty, who is hitting .273 with 15 RBIs and one homerun.
OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Ryan Rohlinger is becoming quite the weapon after being called up to the Class AA Connecticut Defenders just one month ago. Rohlinger is on a nine-game hitting streak, during this streak he is hitting .469 with two homeruns and six RBIs. So far in his young season, Rohlinger is hitting .329 with three homeruns and nine RBIs.
Over the span of nine games, Ole Shedlon has 12 hits along with three homeruns and nine RBIs for the Corpus Christi Hooks (Class AA). For the season he is hitting .279 with 70 hits, 10 homeruns, and 37 RBIs.
SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
Jason Bartlett (Tampa Bay Rays) continues his time on the DL with a right knee sprain. Bartlett has an average of .256 with 20 RBIs and is third on the Rays with 18 stolen bases.
In the National League, Greg Dobbs is having a great offensive season for the Philadelphia Phillies by batting .322 with 18 RBIs and two homeruns. Also, Geoff Geary continues closing games in honorable fashion for the Houston Astros with a 2.35 ERA along with 31 strikeouts.
