NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
The fifth installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:
COLLEGIATE SUMMER LEAGUE
Bryant Hernandez and Elliott Blair (Lodi Grapesox) were both named Wednesday to the Sierra Baseball League All-Star game. The game is set for July 12 at historic Tony Zupo Field in Lodi, Calif. Hernandez is currently hitting .325 with one home run, 11 RBIs and four stolen bases. Blair has been on a tear lately, raising his average to .311 with three home runs, 14 RBIs and seven extra base hits.
In the Cape Cod League, Aaron Baker (Warhem Gatemen) continues to be a productive player for the Gatemen increasing his stats to 16 hits, 10 RBIs and one home run.
Along with Baker, Jamie Johnson (Bourne Braves) has strung together several strong outings in the Cape Cod League, piecing together 17 hits with 2 home runs and batting in 8 RBIs.
Playing in the Texas Collegiate League, Trey Sperring and Chad Colbert (Brazo Valley Bombers) are both contributing as the Bombers compete for second place in the TCL. Sperring has 15 hits, three of them doubles, while driving in 11 RBIs and blasting three home runs. Colbert with several strong outings has increased has numbers to nine hits, 3 RBIs and is tied for fourth in the TCL with nine stolen bases.
OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Ryan Rohlinger is finding his groove with the Class AA Connecticut Defenders. Rohlinger blasted a solo homer off Eddie Camacho in the seventh inning to provide Connecticut with a final margin of victory, 9-0, over the Binghamton Mets. Rohlinger is on a four-game hit streak and has an average of .286 on the season with two home runs and five RBIs.
Kevin Smith is continuing to have an outstanding year leading the Class A Tampa Yankees with RBIs (34), hits (77), and doubles (20) while blasting three home runs. After recently signing with the Dodgers Jake McCarter picked up his first Gulf Coast League win yesterday, beating the Mets 6-3.
SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
After playing a key role in a win over the Red Sox on July 3, Jason Bartlett (Tampa Bay Rays) is now on the 15-day DL with a right knee sprain. Bartlett has an average of .256 with 20 RBIs and is third on the Rays with 18 stolen bases.
In the National League, Geoff Geary continues to be a dependable relief pitcher for the Houston Astros with an ERA of 2.48, while Greg Dobbs is batting well for the Philadelphia Phillies keeping his average at .322 as the Phillies try to stay atop the NL East standings.
