Sooners Narrowly Miss NCAA Berth

BREMERTON, Wash. - The Oklahoma men's golf squad closed its season with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional in Bremerton, Wash., on Saturday.
The Sooners fired a final -round team score of 297 (+9) on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club, narrowly missing a NCAA Championship berth by just four strokes.
The Sooners defeated seven teams ranked in the latest Golfstat top-50 poll at the par-72,7111- yard layout including four top-25 squads.
Phillip Bryan and Ben Blundell both carded rounds of 73 to pace Oklahoma in Saturday's final round. Bryan capped off his collegiate career with a 23rd-place showing in his final event to lead the Sooners, while Blundell's low round of the event moved the sophomore to +16 (101st place).
Two shots back was freshman Liam Logan who fired rounds of 76, 70 and 75 in finishing tied for 30th. Jesse Schutte shot a 4-over-par 76 on Saturday and tied for 46th at +8.

Rounding out the OU scoring was Tyler Rody who finished 139th after a final-round 81.
Oklahoma carded four top-five finishes on the year and returns eight of its nine-member roster for the 2008-09 season.
