OU Leads After One Round in Norman

NORMAN, Okla. - Led by individual leader Kendall Dye's 70 (-2), the No. 40 University of Oklahoma women's golf team raced to the lead of the 30th Susie Maxwell Berning Classic after one round. The Sooners' team score of 295 (+7) puts them six shots ahead of second-place Wisconsin (301).
Dye, a junior from Edmond, Okla., birdied holes six through nine en route to a 34 on the front side. She holds a two-stroke lead over four players.
Senior Kelly Jacques is in the group of players tied for second place, two back of Dye. An eagle on the eighth hole set the tone for the rest of her round as she finished with an even-par 72.
Freshman Ellen Mueller carded a first-round 75 (+3) and stands tied for 14th place, five shots out of the lead.
Sophomore Ryanne Elmer shot a 78 (+6) and is tied for 41st place through 18 holes.
OU's Heather Wright, who was slotted in the No. 1 spot for the Sooners, withdrew from the first round with a wrist injury. She is competing in the second round.
Four individuals are competing for the Sooners this week. Sophomore Andrea Sellmeyer and junior Staci Smoot each fired rounds of 76 (+4), leaving them tied for 19th place. Sophomore Chelsey Collins shot an 82, and junior Sydney Lee posted an 85 to round out the OU scoring.
OU led the field with 11 birdies in the first round.
Second-round action is underway and will finish this evening. Results will be posted at approximately 8 p.m. CDT.
Monday's final round will begin at 8 a.m.
