LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Oklahoma baseball team held a 2-1 after five innings in game two of the series on Saturday, but Texas Tech's four runs in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference, as the Sooners dropped a 6-2 decision at Dan Law Field.

After scoring 12 runs in the series-opening win on Friday, the Sooners were unable to string together enough base hits to defeat Texas Tech starter Chad Bettis, who improved to 4-3 with seven innings of work.

Texas Tech's eight hits on the day were enough to even the series at one game apiece.  For OU, Jamie Johnson was the only Sooner to connect for two or more hits, tying a career high with three of the club's seven hits.

The loss dropped OU to 27-17-1 overall and 5-11-1 in Big 12 play, while Texas Tech jumped to 21-24 and 6-14.

"Their offense got the key hits against our bullpen and we were unable to get that same production from our offense," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway.  "We enter every series looking to win two out of three and we are still in a position to do that tomorrow."

Jeremy Erben (1-1) made the start for the Sooners on the mound and worked his way through five innings and limited Texas Tech to one run on two hits after five.  Erben ran into trouble in the sixth, giving up a leadoff single and after recording the first out, he walked Roger Kieschnick. Erben finished the day with 5 1/3 innings of work and left it up to Michael Rocha to preserve the 2-1 lead.

Rocha struck out the first batter he faced but then surrendered a two-run single to Logan Leslie and a run-scoring double to Chris Hall.  That prompted another call to the OU bullpen, this time for Jake McCarter who gave up a single to left by Rueda that gave Texas Tech a 5-2 lead after six innings.  The two-run single to Leslie closed the book on Erben, who was responsible for three of the Red Raiders' six runs and walked five on the day.

The Sooners and Red Raiders exchanged solo runs in the first inning.  Jamie Johnson led off the game with a single to right field and later came around to score on consecutive ground outs by Aljay Davis and Mike Gosse.  The RBI was the ninth for Gosse in the last five games and the first of two on Saturday.

Texas Tech countered with Chris Richburg's sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the first.

In the top of the third, the Sooners regained the lead, 2-1, on Gosse's second RBI of the day.  The single, which extended his hitting streak to 12 games, pushed across Jamie Johnson again for the second time on the day, who singled through the left side two batters earlier. Johnson moved into scoring position on Aljay Davis' grounder to second which resulted in an error on second baseman Willie Rueda.

McCarter pitched a spotless seventh before the Red Raiders padded the cushion with a Jason Seefeld solo shot to left field.

After Bettis limited OU to two runs, one unearned, on six hits and two walks, James Leverton entered out of the Red Raiders' bullpen to record his first save of the year.  The only reliever used on Saturday after Texas Tech rolled out six hurlers in the opener, Leverton held OU to one hit and a walk over the final two frames.

The third and final decisive game is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday at Dan Law Field.
