NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma men's gymnastics coach Mark Williams added to an already impressive 2009 recruiting class Thursday, signing two more elite junior gymnasts to National Letters of Intent.  Benjamin Mayer and David Finning will join signees Patrick Piscitelli, Chad Crumley and Troy Nitzky in Norman next fall.

Both Mayer and Finning are currently training under former OU All-American Tom Meadows at Cypress Academy in Houston, Texas.  Cypress Academy is the club program that produced current Sooner star Jonathan Horton.

"We're excited to have both Benjamin and David joining our team," Williams said.  "Especially coming from such an outstanding club program, we expect they will fit in very well with our current team and help carry on the great tradition we have at the University of Oklahoma."

Originally from Claremore, Okla., Finning is the son of Scott and Debra Finning and attends Cypress Falls High School in Houston.  Though he has been battling nagging injuries for much of the past year, Williams said he expects Finning to have an immediate impact once he arrives on campus.

"David is a guy that, once he develops a little bit more, could really be an important part of our team," Williams said.  "I like his athletic ability and I certainly think he can be a contributor in the all-around when he comes in."

Mayer was the 2008 Texas Junior Olympic state champion on high bar and also finished second in the state all-around competition.  Another solid all-around prospect for the Sooners, Mayer is the son of Kurt and Gillian Mayer and is home schooled.

"I think Benjamin can really add some strength to our pommel horse and parallel bars teams," Williams said.  "He's also a very good all-arounder and we're looking forward to what he can add to the team."

The 2008 Sooners will travel to Stanford, Calif., April 17-19, for the 2008 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships on the campus of Stanford University.  OU has claimed four of the last six national titles and will be looking to win the eighth NCAA Championship in program history.
