NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU baseball team (8-2) recorded its fifth straight victory on Wednesday with a 9-3 triumph over North Dakota State (0-2) in seven innings at L. Dale Mitchell Park.  The win was the second of the day, as the Sooners run ruled the Bison, 13-0, in the first game of the doubleheader.

The Sooners used their offense to record their first series sweep of the season.  OU topped NDSU in each of the three games and finished the series with 37 runs scored off 44 hits.

Senior leadoff hitter Mike Gosse had perhaps the best outing on Wednesday with five hits and three RBIs during the doubleheader.  Gosse finished the third and final game with three hits and two runs driven in, tied for a game high with fellow senior, Aljay Davis, who was also 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

After a scoreless first inning, freshman Casey Johnson put OU on the board in the second frame with a RBI single to left field.  In the OU third, Gosse, Davis, sophomore Aaron Baker and junior J.T. Wise, connected for four straight RBIs and that was all the Sooners needed to remain a perfect 5-0 at home this season.

"Again, I am proud of our team's effort in these past couple games," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway.  "We continue to get better offensively and defensively with each game and we just need to keep it going.  We are excited to be playing at home for these next 10 days or so."

While pitching has been the story for OU early on this season, the offense has connected for 10 or more hits in each of the last three games and is averaging over 12 runs per game in that span.  The Sooners entered the series with NDSU hitting .232 and will enter the next series against Western Illinois with a .292 team average.

Sophomore Andrew Doyle (2-1) earned the win on Wednesday after making his second career start and third appearance of the season.  Doyle struck out a career-high eight batters over five innings and surrendered three runs, two earned, off four hits and a walk.

Doyle's counterpart, Shannon Ekermans (0-1) took the loss after giving up five runs, four earned, on six hits over three innings pitched.

Sophomore Jeremy Erben relieved Doyle with two spotless innings out of the Sooner bullpen.  Erben did not allow a run, hit or a walk in the sixth and seventh innings and struck out four in the process.

In game one on Wednesday, Oklahoma finished with a 12-3 advantage in hits and junior C.J. Blue (2-0) earned the win with three hits allowed in four innings pitched.  Blue did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Gosse, Spencer Selby, C. Johnson, Matt Harughty and Jarod Freeman finished Wednesday's first game with two hits each.  In addition, Selby, C. Johnson and Harughty also finished with a game-high three RBIs.

The Sooners will remain at home to continue the seven-game home stand with a four-game series with Western Illinois over the weekend.  The first game is set for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Friday, March 7.
