School Record Puts Sooners in Lead

TUCSON, Ariz. -- With a team score of 287 (-1) in the first round of the 17-team MountainView Collegiate, the No. 40 University of Oklahoma women's golf team tied the school record for low 18 holes set in 1994 at the Chris Johnson Invitational. The Sooners' record performance has them in a tie for the lead with San Jose State through one round at the 6,178-yard, par-72 MountainView Golf Course.

Senior Heather Wright fired a career-best round of 69 (-3) to lead the Sooners in the first round. She sits in second place alone through 18 holes, one stroke behind leader Erica Moston of San Jose State.

Junior Kendall Dye is also lurking at the top of the leaderboard after carding a season-low round of 70 (-2). Her score puts her in a tie for third place, two out of the lead and one behind teammate Wright.

Senior Kelly Jacques shot an even-par 72, good for a tie for ninth place after one round. She is four strokes behind the leader, making it three Sooners within four shots of the lead.

Freshman Ellen Mueller's first-round 76 (+4) has her in a tie for 44th place, eight shots out of the lead, and junior Staci Smoot is tied for 72nd after shooting a 79 (+7).

Sophomore Ryanne Elmer, competing as an individual, carded a six-over-par 78 and is tied for 62nd place.

OU is three shots clear of third-place Missouri and six ahead of fourth-place Texas Tech.
