Head Coach K.J. Kindler
Opening Comment:
"Wow that was really dramatic. As far as gymnastics meets go, that was a down to the wire pressure situation. We had absolutely no plans of digging ourselves a hole like we did in that first rotation. But I told the girls don't give up, dig deep and asked them where they were going to finish. They really responded tonight. To count two falls and be the conference champion is something that is very unusual. We have a fantastic team, they respond to the pressure and I am really proud of their response."
On Kiara Redmond-Sturms' final vault:
"We knew we needed a 9.875 for us to win and a 9.85 would tie. I knew she was perfectly capable of a 9.9 even if she stepped, because she has one of the most dynamic vaults in the country. I knew she was going to have to do what she does every single day and I trust her. When she did it, it was just exhilarating."
On the comeback
"Whenever you face adversity like that and whenever there are issues like that, your team grows and they become tougher."
On being named Big 12 Coach of the Year:
"Obviously it's a great honor. With all the coaches that are in our conference, and the depth of talent in our conference, to have the respect of your colleagues and for them to vote on it, it's a great honor."
Senior All-American Kiara Redmond-Sturms
On the bars performance:
"We still had the entire meet in front of us. We were a little disappointed but we didn't give up and we kept fighting, knowing we still had a long ways to go."
On the victory:
"It is so much to take in right now. It will probably hit me tomorrow. I'm very excited and this is what I wanted. Getting the individual titles is just icing on top. Getting the team title is what I wanted and I am very happy"
Sophomore All-Big 12 performer Hollie Vise
On the teams confidence heading into the regional:
"Today showed that even though we made mistakes, we showed we are strong enough to come back. This shows we are ready for the postseason and ready to take on anything."
Junior All-Big 12 performer Ashley Jackson
On coming out flat early:
"It was a struggle. All week we have been putting an emphasis on execution and bonding as a team and how important it was for all six of us to go out and do our best in order to win the competition. It was more pressure because we are undefeated and we knew we had to forget about our past and focus on what we neded to do."
