ARLINGTON, Texas --  Oklahoma athletes returned Saturday from the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington with 16 top-three finishes including six event titles.  The Sooners were led by sophomore Amy Backel who topped her previous school record in the javelin by over 10 feet on the campus of the University of Texas-Arlington.

Backel broke the school record at last Saturday's Tulsa Duels with a throw of 155 feet and four inches (47.36 meters), but took only one week to rewrite the Oklahoma record books with a throw of 166-8 (50.80).  Backel also finished fifth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 46-10.25 (14.28). Backel's previous PR in the event was 45-7.00 (13.89).

Sooner women recorded a sweep in the 400-meter dash with a one-two-three finish in the event.  Leslie Cole won the event with a personal-best and regional qualifying time of 54.35 while Tijahnni Newton (55.10) finished second, followed by Jasmine Still (56.16) in third.

Cole and Newton also claimed first-place honors as members of the OU 4x400-meter relay, finishing with a time of 3:41.16.  Latoya Greaves and Jalesa Walker rounded out the quartet that recorded a regional qualifying time.

Greaves was another member of Saturday's two-title club with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 13.71.

Oklahoma recorded a title sweep in the 200-meter dash with Marcus Pugh and Scottesha Miller picking up wins in their respective divisions with times of 21.09, an NCAA regional qualifying time, and 24.00, respectively.  Pugh also finished second in the 100-meter dash (10.60) while Miller took third in the women's event with a time of 11.87.

OU picked up second-place finishes in both divisions of the pole vault.  Chip Heuser took silver in the men's division with a top mark of 16-0.75 (4.90) while Jessica Brown cleared 11-11.75 (3.65).

Buck Sullivan finished second in the men's hammer with a long throw of 185-3 (56.46).

The women's 4x100-meter relay, comprised of Missy Barnes, Cole, Miller and Walker, came in second with a time of 45.81.

Zach Dawson claimed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.32 but more importantly posted an NCAA regional qualifying mark.

Mitch Henry, competing in the javelin, finished third with a personal-best 191-11 (58.50).
