NORMAN, Okla. - Senior Heather Wright fired a spring season-low round of 73 (+1), and fellow senior Kelly Jacques posted her second consecutive 74 (+2) to lead the OU women's golf team in the second round of the 18-team Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The Sooners carded their best team score of the spring season with a 304 at the par-72, 6,168-yard Coco Beach Resort, putting them in 14th place after two days.

"We almost had the round we needed today," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "Kelly (Jacques) and Heather (Wright) really played solid. We are looking for Kendall (Dye) and Ellen (Mueller) to have solid rounds tomorrow so we can move ahead of some teams that will be important for our head-to-head standings."

Jacques moved up into a tie for 13th place with her 74. Her two-day score of 148 (+4) leaves her just two strokes out of the top 10, and 10 shots behind 36-hole leader Stacy Lewis of Arkansas. Lewis, the No. 2 player in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index and defending NCAA Champion, leads the tournament by three at 138 (-6).

Wright's 73 was not only her best round of the spring season, but also the low individual round for the Sooners this spring. She stands in a tie for 41st at 152 (+8).

Sophomore Ryanne Elmer, playing in her first event of the spring, ranks third among Sooner golfers through 36 holes with a score of 157 (+13). She is tied for 67th place.

Freshman Ellen Mueller sits in 74th place at 158 (+14), while junior Kendall Dye shot a second-round 79 (+7) to put her in a tie for 83rd.

OU is one shot behind N.C. State, and two shots out of a tie for 11th with Michigan and Central Florida. The Sooners rank No. 1 out of three Big 12 teams participating in this tournament. They are three shots ahead of 15th-place Texas Tech, and 16 strokes clear of 17th-place Iowa State.

"All we need is one low round to get the team's momentum going," Ludvigson said. "With attitudes good and desire high, I think tomorrow could be the day that gets us going. I am happy to see Kelly's solid play. She and Heather are crucial to our team's success."

The final round begins tomorrow with a 7 a.m. CT shotgun start.
