PALM SPRINGS - Setting a school record with six home runs, the No. 6 Oklahoma softball team run ruled Pacific, 14-5, Friday night at the Palm Springs Classic.

The previous school record for most home runs by a team in a game was five set by the 2005 team against Texas A&M (April 16) and the 1996 team against Tulsa (April 11).

Savannah Long, Traci Dickenson and Lindsey Vandever recorded two home runs each as OU improved to 10-3.

The two home runs by each player also tied an individual single game record as no player in OU history has ever hit more than two home runs in a game.  However, 30 other players have hit two in a game.

The Sooners return to tournament action on Saturday as they face Oregon at 12:30 p.m. (CT) and No. 25 San Diego State at 5 p.m.

Senior Jadyn Smith earned her first win of the year as she came in for relief of OU starter Morgan Hudsonpillar.  Smith threw the final 4.1 innings of the game and didn't allow any earned runs while surrendering five hits and striking out three while walking none.

Hudsonpillar pitched 1.2 innings and allowed three runs on three hits while walking three and striking out two.

Vandever led the offense with five RBI on a 2-for-2 outing while Dickenson went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Long added three RBI on a 3-for-3 perfect outing.  Long recorded three home runs on the day after hitting two against Pacific and one in the earlier game against No. 12 Stanford.

Long repeated her performance from the first game of the day as she got the Sooners on the board first with a solo home run over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the first to give OU the early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers answered back in the second as Kellee Wilson led off with a walk and Nicole Matson followed that with a towering two-run homer over centerfield that gave the Tigers the 2-1 edge.  The Tigers strung together a fielder's choice, walk and a single to load the bases with two outs.

After loading the bases, OU starter Hudsonpillar was replaced by senior Jadyn Smith.  The senior gave up a single to center that scored another run and gave Pacific the 3-1 lead.  However, Smith settled and struck out the next batter to end the top of the second.

The Sooners made their own opportunities in the second as Samantha Ricketts and Dickenson recorded back-to-back walks.  Vandever got the Sooners back on top as she followed that with a three-run homer to deep centerfield to give OU the 4-3 advantage.  However, OU wasn't done as two outs later Chana'e Jones walked and Long followed that with a single to right as the Sooners had runners at the corners with two outs.    Next, Flores ripped an RBI single to left to extend the OU lead to 5-3 after two innings.

Oklahoma added to its momentum in the third as Ricketts led off the bottom of the frame and reached first on an error by the first baseman.  Dickenson stepped to the plate and hammered a two-run homer over the centerfield wall as OU led 7-3.

Vandever followed that with a walk and was moved over to third after two straight ground outs.  Next, Jones ripped an RBI single to right that scored Vandever and pushed the lead to 8-3.  Long followed that with her second home run of the game and third of the day as she pounded a two-run homer over left field as OU led 10-3.  Amber Flores followed that with a triple to center but the Sooners couldn't bring her across the plate as Susan Ogden struck out to end the third.

OU didn't stop in the fourth as Ricketts led off with a walk and Dickenson followed that with her second home run of the day, a two-run shot to centerfield that gave OU the 12-3 advantage.

Pacific didn't give up in the fifth as the Tigers strung together back-to-back hits with one out.  Following a fielding error and throwing error by Long, the Tigers scored two more to close the gap 12-5.

However, Oklahoma used a rally in the bottom of the sixth to end the game in a run rule.  Dickenson led off with a double down the right field line and Vandever followed that with her second homer of the day, a two-run shot over left field to end the game in a run rule, 14-5.
