NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team stands in 12th place after the first day of the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., the spring season-opener for the Sooners. OU shot rounds of 312 and 313 Monday at the 6,089-yard, par-72 River Wilderness Golf and Country Club. It trails SMU and Nebraska, which are tied for 10th place, by three shots.
"We had a rough day putting, but really played better than our scores," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "We are ready for tomorrow and know what we need to do to pick up some spots."
Senior Heather Wright posted OU's best score of the day with a total of 153 (+9). She sits tied for 25th. Her 74 in the first round was also the low single-round of the day for the Sooners.
Junior Kendall Dye fired rounds of 79 and 76 and is tied for 28th at 155 (+11). Senior Kelly Jacques stands tied for 36th after shooting 157 (+13).
Freshman Ellen Mueller carded rounds of 82 and 79 for the Sooners and is tied for 55th with her total score of 161. Sophomore Chelsey Collins sits in a tie for 63rd place with her two-round total of 164 (+20).
The Central District Invitational features six other schools from the Big 12 Conference. "We seem a bit rusty, but we are confident that we will produce better scores tomorrow," Ludvigson said. "This team is tough and works very hard. The hard work will pay off. We are looking forward to posting the low score of the day tomorrow."
